چکیده

We highlight the necessity for evaluating and evolving the global axisymmetric radial electric field in a tokamak consistent with conservation of toroidal angular momentum for both € δf and full f gyrokinetic codes, where f is the full distribution function and € δf its departure from Maxwellian. We also consider the effects of a strong radial electric field in a subsonic pedestal in the banana regime, finding that it acts to reverse the poloidal flow, increase the bootstrap current, and enhance the residual zonal flow regulation of turbulence. We then generalize the concept of intrinsic ambipolarity to an H mode pedestal.

II . Rotation velocities and radial electric field in the plasma edge

The toroidal and poloidal rotation and related radial electric field observed in the edge (and core) of tokamak plasmas are of interest for several reasons, not least of which is what they reveal about radial momentum transport, but also because of their apparent role in the L-H transition and the edge pedestal. It was recently shown that if the heat transport coefficients and rotation velociti...

Neoclassical theory of pedestal flows and comparison with Alcator C-Mod measurements

Neoclassical implications of the strong radial electric field, inherently present in an H-mode tokamak pedestal, are considered. The main ion poloidal flow in the pedestal is predicted to be reduced in magnitude, or even reversed, compared with its core counterpart. The resulting change in the neoclassical formula for the impurity flow is shown to result in improved agreement with boron measure...

Magnetic Field Effects on the Elastic Behavior of Polymeric Piezoelectric Cylinder Reinforced with CNTs

In the present study, the magnetic field effects of the elastic response of the polymeric piezoelectric cylinder reinforced with the carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are studied. The cylinder is subjected to an internal pressure, a constant electric potential difference at the inner and outer surfaces, and the thermal and magnetic fields. The Mori-Tanaka model is used for obtaining the equivalent materi...

Pedestal Structure Without And With 3D Fields

Achieving high pedestal pressures in H(high)-mode plasmas confined in tokamaks is critical for obtaining fusion burning plasmas in ITER. Recent characterizations of quasi-equilibrium plasma parameter profiles in low collisionality H-mode pedestals in the DIII-D tokamak are briefly summarized. Critical plasma transport properties (large radial electron heat flow, density pinch) that establish th...

Formation and structure of transport barriers during confinement transitions in toroidal plasma.

Density pedestal formation is studied experimentally during spontaneous low-to-high confinement transitions in the H-1 heliac. Poloidally extended potential structures, or zonal flows, seem to play the major role both in the spatial structure and in the temporal evolution of the pedestal formation. Zonal flows transiently generate radially localized maxima in the radial electric-field shear in ...
